Sep 04 / Accepted for the SAAG Third Annual National Art Show – Yeah!

Dr. Annette Blaugrund

The third annual South Eastern Appalachian Artist’s Guild will open October 16 and run through November 12, 2010. I know I have one photograph that has been accepted. The juror is Dr. Annette Blaugrund. A very intimidating, to me, judge. I can’t wait to see what she selects from the show. That is always the most interesting thing to me since I have no formal training. I love to figure out what it is in each artwork that the judge feels separates it from the pack. Especially when everything in the pack is good!

Dr. Blaugrunds Bio:
“Dr. Annette Blaugrund, Ph.D. is former Director of the National Academy of Design/Museum and School of Fine Arts, NY. In addition to her experience with the National Academy of Design, Annette is an art historian, curator and author. She has extensive experience as a show juror in the United States, Bermuda and Russia. We are pleased to have a juror of Dr. Blaugrund’s reputation and experience select our show for 2010″.

Sep 01 / “Forster” Was Accepted For The Airport Show

Well, one of my photographs was accepted. I am stunned given the volume and quality of the work that was submitted. Because the photos will be printed in large format for the show Digital Arts Studio, (Barry Gustaff) will have to examine each one for resolution requirements. I have my fingers crossed; it was a 22MB Tiff file so it should be OK, but you never know.

09_FORESTER

The title of this photo is Forster, hopefully prompting the viewer to think of EM Forster’s Room with a View. It was meaningful to me back in 1986 when my little brother Wade died. This image is like an anchor point for me. It reminds me to remember gifts.

In ”Room With A View” as in most of Forster’s novels there is an underlying theme being expressed as the story of external events and circumstances being the catalyst that forces the main characters to a spiritual/emotional breaking point. A choice point where the path of blind retreat has been utterly destroyed, and the only available step forward is fearfully contradictory to every belief they have held dear about themselves and the world. It is the last second of the dark night of the soul; just before the dawning of awareness they may finally allow themselves to  have a Room With A View. What had been held valuable and dear is now just as valueless as it had always been. What was perceived as valueless before is recognized as having been ever-present and, until now, rejected.
